Introduction to Leadership

Hello everyone
I am Jaskaran Kaler. I will write about “Leadership and its Qualities” in coming weeks. Hope you all find it interesting and useful.

What is Leadership?
Leadership, as it is known, is the quality which enables the person to take initiatives and guide others in performing some required task and we define ‘Leader’ as one who direct others. Leadership is not an easy task to do. It requires a positive behaviour and particular skills. Leaders in any field have extraordinary qualities which may be inborn or acquired.

Bacon has very well said that, “Some people are born great, some acquire or achieve greatness and some have greatness thrust upon them”.

I believe that leadership as a whole is a process to achieve the targeted goal through proper management skills and guidance of the leader. The eventual goal of any leader is to bring out the optimum level of performance from his team members which can be achieved through motivation and positive feedback of the leader because these factors encourage the team members to perform better and bring out the best in them. These factors work as an ‘inspirational force’ for them which pushes them to do well and the good leader is the one who influences his team members and set particular goals to be achieved.

"Be the change that you want to see in the world".This is one saying which have inspired me throughout my life because if you want to change something, that change begins with you.The man who had proved this all his life was none other than Mahatma Gandhi. It was his vision and leadership qualities which helped India to achieve independence in 1947. He was a true mentor not only for Indians, but for the South Africans also. Mahatma Gandhi was a task-oriented person and successfully launched a Non-Violence Movement in South Africa and India which marked the beginning of the revolution which eventually led to the India’s independence and helped South Africans to achieve the rights they deserved as Humans. Mahatma Gandhi’s leadership qualities have worked as an inspirational source for many famous leaders like Barrack Obama, Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King, and etcetera.
